Detail #1 - "Parts of a Whole..."

7/5/2017

Picture
Detail of a vertical mixed media painting 24"x12" in progress.

For the next 6 months as I work towards a new series of paintings, I will be featuring 'Details' of these current paintings In progress. (A 'Detail' of a painting is a part or portion of it considered in isolation.)

What happens when a particular area doesn't work or gel with the rest? Sometimes it is the best part of the work but sadly enough, even the best part of a work of art has to be sacrificed for the betterment of the rest of the painting... Yikes !!! scary but true.

It is in these times I like to separate it from the whole by photographing and enjoying it as a complete piece on its own. It may eventually be saved on the original painting or it may be the last interaction I have with it on that piece. At least here it wont be forgotten, I can learn from it and it may even get the honor of becoming its very own painting in the future. Who knows if this detail will remain a part of the whole painting; a new painting; or not.

Will it Stay? or Sashay Away :-)

...Either way I get to honor it here.

Do you ever have sucky studio days? You spend hours puttering around moving stuff around nd getting nothing done. That's what's happening with me today - Im sitting in a pool of unfinished work ready to create magic and...Blank...Nothing.
So I've decide to do some Deep breathing exercises and just start even if it's not on the work i planned to do - like a sketch or a funny or silly drawing or collage. #juststart
#Studio day drama.
What do u do when you draw a blank in the studio?

The Importance of being Creative

Whether u call yourself an Artist or not we are all Creative -that's how we were born.  There is no right nor wrong way to be an artist. The more we create, the more we discover  our true potential in this world. When we allow ourselves to develop our own ideas, we tap into our inner #nature, and we are better able to express ourselves on a regular basis.

Being Creative gives us Freedom. When we create, we give ourselves permission to take risks, try new things, and see the world in a new way.
Making art is #meditative and it makes us happy. Art is FUN, and doing anything that brings #joy reduces our stress levels improving the quality of life.

When we do creative activities Time feels limitless which is an amazing feeling in a world where time is never enough and moves too fast.
So after that rant... just do it make ART be CREATIVE
What creative or artistic things do you do or have you done in the past?

March is Fibers Month in New Bedford, where downtown New Bedford's art community is celebrating fiber-based art.
yarn-bombings, intricate embroidery work, knitting, crochet paper-making, quilting, weaving, felting, dyeing, book-making, and the list goes on.

2017 will be the 5th year that New Bedford is celebrating Fibers Month and as for the Alison Wells Fine Art Gallery we are proud to be a part of it for the 3rd year in a row.

In addition to March being Fibers Month it is also international woman's day and therefore I am honored to present 4 women Fiber Artists whose work explore various techniques and styles.
