Totems (Select images)

This body of work discusses ideas of culture, identity and the vital role women play within our communities as pillars of strength. It is an exploration into group relationships and cultural bonds which transcend historic and geographic differences, conveying a universal message. I translate these ideas through juxtapositions of color, texture, figurative abstractions and visual movement. My figures are abstracted female forms that often morph into column-like structures to express power and stability. They are also distorted to emphasize the unique and expressive qualities within individuals - which can be both disturbing and appealing as they explore the manipulation of perception. ​
