My Display at DNB Inc's Spring Social

4/4/2015

Downtown New Bedford, Inc. held its 24th Annual Spring Social at The Wamsutta Club at 427 County Street from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.

The Spring Social is an important event that helps to sustain the many programs and projects offered to members and the downtown community by DNB, Inc.
It is always well attended and offers high quality entertainment, artist displays and food and beverage.

As a DNB Inc member I was honored to have a display of my artwork at this year's Spring Social. Preparation for me began weeks in advance - see some of my prep pics below.

The  Zeiterion Theatre in downtown New Bedford has recently begun to feature the artwork of local artists in their newly renovated Penler Room which hosts VIP receptions for members and guest artists.

Thank you to the 'Z' for supporting local art and for inviting me to be the featured artist for the month of March. My paintings looked stunning on the Penler Room's  walls and the feedback and interest in my work was amazing.

Fibers Month at the Gallery

In honor of Fibers Month  and Woman's month in March Alison Wells Fine Art Gallery hosted a group exhibition featuring three female Fiber Artists: Jodi Stevens, Barbara Watler and Rhonda Fazio.
View a slide show of our exhibit and opening reception below.
Take a glimpse of our 3 featured Artists:

Jodi Stevens  uses textile materials such as weaving thread or yarn in unconventional ways. By layering, wrapping, or methodically laying out individual threads, she creates an overall atmosphere, sometimes a specific form, often with monochromatic or cascading colors.

Barbara Watler's  processes have often involved appliqué rather than piecing.  In the  beginning she used direct appliqué in a collage methodology but then became very interested in whole cloth reverse appliqué. In recent years she has incorporated machine thread painting on canvas to create a heavily textured surface with a tapestry-like  appearance.

Rhonda Fazio's work assimilates the textile design methods of ancient and indigenous cultures with the agrarian culture of Western Civilization. Her work is largely produced without the use of fossil fuel, it relies more on the human process of design rather than the mechanized version of it.
