So pleased everything went well with the transformation of my new studio and Gallery space. It was not an easy trip but with hard work dedication and a love for what I do I have arrived at this stage. Blessed that I can be living my artists dream.

The Paintings were up and the track lighting was angled perfectly on them. So it was now time for the finishing touches.
My husband the farmer brought pumpkins, gourds and flowers to decorate the space and boy did they give the space a beautiful touch of autumn in the air. After the studio was all set up and ready for creating artwork it was now time for the Gallery area to take shape. Thankfully my former studio was just upstairs in the same building so transportation of my paintings was fairly easy as they were brought over carefully and safely by hand. Then came the difficult task of deciding what paintings to hang on the walls. It took a full day of staring for hours at the paintings leaned against the wall then arranging and rearranging the order of them before actually mounting the work. The hardest part was having to eliminate pieces from the line up because there were too many and the last thing I wanted to do was make the space cluttered like my former studio upstairs. What do you do when you love them all? :-) Then came the other tough task of drilling nails into the brick wall. Well that was the job for my hubby Jaison who did wonders with the installation process measuring and installing the artwork perfectly. After the painting and lighting were completed the move began in the studio space in the back. Box by box of materials, furniture and equipment found their rightful place and nothing seemed cramped nor cluttered as they all had a designated spot.
The move to my new studio and gallery space took a while but it was an ideal move. I didn't have to rush out of my old space for anyone new coming in plus the new space was cleared out and available for me to begin the transformation.
My vision for it was to open up the small space and let it feel bigger than it really was. First order of business was to paint the orange walls white. My friends Chuck and Chris came in and did an amazing job painting the walls as it was not easy trying to paint orange brick walls that were porous and took several coats. Next was the track lighting that needed to be bright enough to illuminate the artwork properly as well as open up and brighten the space. With the exception of a few minor glitches the space unfolded beautifully with the track lighting and paint job setting the stage for the gallery of my dreams. Last Thursday was the opening reception of the "Alison Wells Fine Art Studio & Gallery" It was truly a magical night. All the hard work, stress and anxiety paid off in the end as the space was totally transformed.
The track lighting lit up the space and allowed the work to shine through like gems on the wall and the live steel pan music (national instrument of my native Trinidad) El Caribe brought the place alive with a festive flare. Thank you to all of my friends; family; collectors and well wishers who came out to support my latest venture - Infinite Love and Gratitude. When I graduated from UMASS with my masters in Fine Arts 7 years ago I didn't paint for 9 months. It is a hard transition physically, mentally and emotionally after you graduate from college (especially with an art degree) - but the physical hardship was the worse No Where to paint! -and that led to the mental and emotional stress. After leaving the schools incredible studio spaces that looked out over Union St and a small section of the harbor, painting in my bedroom was just not cutting it. :-/ so in April 2008 I took the bold step to rent an art studio in the Cummings building. My space was perfect - though tiny it was the largest studio space I ever had the pleasure to work in. It actually looked empty and neat when I just moved in but it quickly grew as my creative energy soared high - thanks to my very first studio in New Bedford - my magical Red Room.
This is a pic of the beautiful marble staircase one had to climb to get to my former studio. Thanks to all of you who made it up these steps to view and buy my art work for the past 6 years. Happy to be on street level now. So come on by tomorrow Opening Reception Thursday October 9 from 5-9pm.
