Formed in 1956 the Cottagers are a group of 100 professional African American women homeowners on Martha’s Vineyard whose mission is to promote education a sense of cultural pride and the value of service to the community for the people of the island The women of the Cottagers are important role models epitomizing the strength of women through quiet activism The group fundraises all summer to support multiple programs Check our calendar page for this summer’s activities

The Cottagers home Cottagers Corner was dedicated on July 5th 2006 as the 18th site on The African American Heritage Trail in Oak Bluffs Cottagers Corner is an important site on the African American Heritage Trail honoring the work of the women of the Cottagers and the role that they have played in our community. One week ago I began posting an image from my collection of artwork in my
"PIC OF THE WEEK." post.

This week I feature one of my favorite pieces " The Gathering" Acrylic on canvas, 38"x46" from the series "Totems" http://www.alisonwells.com/totems.html

This body of work discusses ideas of culture, identity and the vital role women play within our communities as pillars of strength. It is an exploration into group relationships and cultural bonds which transcend historic and geographic differences, conveying a universal message.

So the strangest thing happened when I reached my last blog of my 30 blogs in 30 day challenge...I actually missed it...I did. What started out as a struggle and strain to write everyday, became a joy and a pleasure with so many benefits but just like that it was over.

I had decided to write a blog once a week and another strange thing occurred...I didn't write at all !!! Nothing, Nada, Not a single thing. For some reason not doing the blog everyday triggered off a reaction where I didn't do it at all but I still missed it terribly. The human brain likes order and routine and once that routine has ended another one must follow - but it didn't happen and therefore there was no routine to follow :-( But not any more...IM BACK :-)

So with all that said I am back, tap tap tapping away at my computer keys and ready to talk about all the great things that have happened and are happening with Alison Wells fine Arts Studio. Stay tuned in for:

- Upcoming shows this Summer
- Upcoming Festivals
- Studio doors open this summer
- New Artwork
- Fun Artsy things to do this Summer
and much much more... it's SUMMER SUMMER SUMMER-TIME!
